135th IndianOil Durand Cup Trophy Tour Reaches Ranchi Ahead of Tournament Debut

The trophy tour of the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup arrived in Ranchi on Saturday, marking the city's debut as a host venue for the historic football tournament. The three iconic trophies were welcomed during a ceremonial function held at the Kerketta Auditorium inside the Dipatoli Military Station.

The event, organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, celebrated Ranchi's upcoming role in hosting the tournament, which is scheduled to begin its opening match on July 26.

Sudivya Kumar, the Minister for Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs for the Government of Jharkhand, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Major General Sajjan Singh Maan, General Officer Commanding, Combat IBG 23, was present as the Guest of Honour.

Speaking at the event, Sudivya Kumar expressed pride in Ranchi hosting the tournament for the first time. He noted that the opening match on July 26 would be attended by the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Kumar highlighted that Ranchi is privileged to host leading Indian football clubs alongside an international team, and thanked both the Chief Minister and the Indian Army for making the event possible.

The ceremony featured a video screening that traced the legacy of the Durand Cup, as well as the ceremonial unveiling of the three trophies, which had taken place at Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier in the month.

Major General Sajjan Singh Maan noted that the tournament's expansion to Ranchi follows its successful hosting in Jamshedpur last year. He stated that this move reflects a commitment to bringing high-quality football to new regions and strengthening the football tradition of Jharkhand.

Colonel Hem Chandra, the Nodal Officer for Ranchi, also spoke at the event, outlining the city's preparations. He emphasized the significance of Ranchi joining the list of Durand Cup host venues and expressed confidence in showcasing the region's passion for the sport.
