Zen Technologies Delivers AI Firing Range to Indian Navy

Hyderabad-based defence technology firm Zen Technologies announced that the Indian Navy has commissioned India's first AI-enabled containerised small arms firing range (CSAFR). The advanced training system was developed and installed by the company to bolster live-fire training for maritime and shore-based security operations.

According to the company, the containerised range was delivered ahead of schedule within a compressed timeframe. The project was conceptualised by the Indian Navy and engineered and built by Zen Technologies to provide realistic small-arms combat training directly at operational bases.

The deployment of the containerised system aims to significantly reduce the armed force's reliance on conventional outdoor shooting ranges. Traditional outdoor facilities often face operational constraints due to land availability, weather conditions, travel distances, increasing urbanisation, and high logistics costs.

The new firing range is tailored for specialised training requirements, including the security of naval shore establishments, low-intensity maritime combat operations, ship-boarding missions, and fleet protection measures. It enables naval personnel and operational teams to rehearse customised maritime combat scenarios and practice engaging fast-moving targets, such as high-speed boats.

Zen Technologies stated that the facility incorporates a zero-danger area design alongside a low-noise signature. These features ensure that live-fire drills can be carried out safely even within dense urban environments.

The system supports round-the-clock, all-weather training capabilities, accommodating both night-time and low-visibility firing exercises. In addition, the firing range allows multiple personnel to engage moving targets simultaneously while automatically generating individual performance scores and detailed analytics for assessment.
