Zaheerabad Congress Leaders Clash at Gandhi Bhavan Over Allotment of Party Positions

A dispute within the Zaheerabad Congress unit escalated into a verbal brawl on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad. Local party leaders engaged in heated arguments, indulged in verbal abuse, and shouted slogans against the constituency in-charge and former Minister, Chandrashekhar, over the allotment of party positions.

The confrontation highlights ongoing internal friction within the party, particularly the growing differences between long-time loyalists and turncoat leaders. Chandrashekhar had joined the Congress party from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) prior to the Assembly elections in 2023.

According to party sources, several local leaders alleged that Chandrashekhar has been giving priority to his own followers in the allotment of different positions within the party. This perceived favoritism flared up differences between the established party loyalists and the newer turncoat leaders who followed Chandrashekhar. The dispute, which was previously confined to the Zaheerabad constituency, eventually spilled over to the party headquarters.

This incident marks the second time within two months that Gandhi Bhavan has become the venue for an altercation among Congress leaders. It follows a similar clash that occurred during a Congress Hyderabad Parliament constituency meeting held at the same venue last month.

During that previous meeting, arguments broke out between senior leader Feroz Khan and another leader, Osman Ali Hajri, over sharing the stage with visiting ministers. The disagreement escalated when Hajri allegedly pushed Khan to the ground. That altercation took place in the presence of Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd Azharuddin and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.

The repeated disturbances at the headquarters have drawn attention to the challenges the party faces in managing internal dissent and integrating new members into its organizational structure.
