Yash Defends Film Toxic in Hyderabad Amid Criticism Over Portrayal of Women

Actor Yash defended his new multi-starrer gangster drama, 'Toxic', during a pre-release event in Hyderabad, responding to criticism regarding the film's portrayal of women and its alleged misogynistic themes.

Speaking to the audience in Hyderabad, Yash defended director Geetu Mohandas and dismissed negative impressions formed prior to the release. Yash stated that the director would prove that women can face challenging situations, express their vision, and succeed in society. Urging women to watch the movie in theatres, the actor stated that there is a genuine voice for women in the film, contrasting with how it may have appeared in the promotional trailer.

The film has come under scrutiny despite achieving commercial success, having collected Rs 104 crore on its opening day. Former BJP leader and 'We The Leaders' founder K Annamalai attacked the movie over its themes and criticized the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for clearing the project. Annamalai questioned the regulatory standards, stating that the portrayal of women in such films could negatively impact younger audiences and undermine broader advocacy efforts for women's safety.

'Toxic' is a period gangster drama produced by KVN Productions and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. Billed as one of the most expensive Indian films, it was shot in Kannada and English. The project features Yash in a double role alongside an ensemble cast including Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth.
