Yapral Residents in Malkajgiri Struggle With Overflowing Drains and Mosquito Menace

Residents of Keesara Circle in the Yapral ward of Malkajgiri are struggling with severe civic issues as overflowing drains continue to inundate local streets with sewage, leaving locals to navigate foul odours, stagnant water, and damaged roads whenever it rains.

According to residents, sewage regularly spills onto the roads and accumulates directly in front of houses. The problem intensifies significantly during the monsoon season, when waterlogged streets become impassable and create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, raising widespread health and safety concerns for families and young children.

Local resident K Vijayan, 66, whose home is situated opposite a drain, noted that residents have dealt with the issue for years and often pay out of their own pockets to clear blockages. He explained that municipal corporation workers periodically clear the drains, but blockages return within days because no permanent solution has been implemented. Vijayan added that ongoing road works in the area have failed to address the root drainage defects, causing water to overflow onto streets and reach residential doorsteps after heavy downpours.

Another resident, 65-year-old Shiva Kanthi, highlighted the severe mosquito menace caused by the stagnant sewage water, stating that families remain constantly worried about the health and safety of their children.
