World Archery Upgrades Jyothi Surekha Vennam Medal to Silver

In Hyderabad, World Archery upgraded Indian compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam's bronze medal to silver from the 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final, according to an announcement on July 6, 2026. The decision follows the disqualification of Mexican archer Marina Bernal for violating anti-doping regulations during the international tournament, which was held in Nanjing, China.

Bernal's disqualification was triggered by a doping sample collected from her on September 29, 2025. The sample resulted in her disqualification in accordance with World Archery Federation Rule 3, leading the governing body to officially revise the final results of the championship. Vennam had originally finished the event in third place to claim the bronze medal.

Following the official revision of the standings by World Archery, the final podium positions have been updated. Andrea Becerra of Mexico retains the gold medal, while Vennam has been elevated to the silver medal position. Ella Gibson of Great Britain moves into the bronze medal spot.

Reacting to the announcement, Vennam's father, Surendra Kumar Vennam, expressed his pride and delight. He stated that the upgraded silver medal represents another significant achievement in her decorated career, showcasing her continued excellence in international compound archery and bringing recognition to India.

The 30-year-old archer from Vijayawada has been one of India’s most consistent medal winners across multiple international archery disciplines. The newly awarded silver medal adds to her extensive collection of global accolades.

Over her career, Vennam has secured an impressive array of medals. At the World Championships, she has won one gold, five silver, and four bronze medals. Her performances at the World Cup Finals now feature two silver medals.

At the Asian Games, Vennam has claimed three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. Her record at the Asian Championships includes seven gold, five silver, and two bronze medals. Additionally, she has accumulated 11 gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals across various World Cups.
