Worker from Kolkata killed in suspected chemical explosion at Badangpet

A 43-year-old worker from Kolkata was killed on the spot in a suspected chemical explosion at Badangpet in Meerpet on Sunday, 21 June 2026.

The victim was identified as Anoop, a 43-year-old man. According to reports, Anoop had recently arrived in the area from Kolkata in search of employment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the devastating impact of the blast. The force of the explosion was so severe that parts of the victim’s body were flung several metres away from the immediate blast site.

Upon being informed of the incident, the local police rushed to the scene to secure the area. Officers recovered the remains of the victim and shifted them for a post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case concerning the fatal blast.

Personnel from the Bomb Detection Squad also arrived at the location in Badangpet to inspect the site and examine the surrounding area for clues.

According to the police, it is suspected that a chemical explosion caused the fatal incident. Investigators believe the blast may have been triggered when paint or another chemical substance was discarded or mishandled.

A detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.
