Work Begins On 1,200-Acre Lagacharla Industrial Estate In Vikarabad

The Telangana state government has commenced the implementation phase of its ambitious 1,200-acre multi-purpose industrial estate across Lagacharla, Polepalli, and Hakimpet in Dudyal mandal of Vikarabad district. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s flagship project has officially moved forward with the initiation of land allotments, signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with companies, and the start of construction on a major education hub.

Out of the total 1,200 acres acquired for the project, the government has earmarked nearly 500 acres for industries and allocated 250 acres for an education hub. Construction work has already started on the education hub, which is designed to transform the Kodangal Assembly constituency into a major educational centre. The hub will house a Young India Residential School, a Sainik School, engineering, medical, nursing, and polytechnic colleges, alongside an Advanced Training Institute.

Additionally, work has recently commenced on a new 440-bed super-specialty hospital within the estate to boost healthcare infrastructure in the region.

For the industrial sector, the government has allocated 419 acres under the Central Government’s Bhavya Scheme. The Birla Group has been allotted 66 acres, while 37 acres have been assigned to a palm oil processing company. Soil testing in these allotted areas has already been completed, and construction of the industrial units is expected to begin shortly.

To accommodate more companies, the state government is actively expanding its land bank. Officials have completed surveys to acquire an additional 110 acres of assigned land. Simultaneously, the government is working to acquire 374 acres in Irlapalli, Santrakunta thanda, and Nanya Nayak thanda, with compensation cheques expected to be distributed to affected farmers shortly.

This multi-purpose corridor represents a major shift from the government's original 2024 plan to establish a pharmaceutical cluster in the area. The initial pharma proposal triggered widespread protests from local residents and farmers who feared environmental pollution.

The opposition culminated in a violent protest during a public hearing in November 2024, where protesters attacked officials, including the then Vikarabad collector Prateek Jain. Following an interim stay on land acquisition granted by the High Court, the government abandoned the pharma cluster. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy subsequently announced that the acquired land would instead be used for pollution-free industries under the current multi-purpose industrial corridor.
