Woman dies after consuming poison on Sabari Express near Secunderabad

A 36-year-old woman died and a man was hospitalized after they allegedly consumed poison aboard the Sabari Express as it approached the Secunderabad Railway Station in Hyderabad. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, leading to the death of Gulivendula Neelaveni at around 1:00 AM on Thursday during treatment at Gandhi Hospital. The man, Sriram Sirish Kumar, survived the initial attempt and remains under close medical monitoring at the same hospital.

According to officials, Neelaveni and Sirish Kumar were both natives of the Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh. The duo had reportedly eloped to Coimbatore about a month prior to the incident. They had been living there until Sirish Kumar's wife discovered their whereabouts.

After learning where the couple was staying, Sirish Kumar’s wife travelled to Coimbatore in search of her husband. She located the pair, and following a counselling session, both Neelaveni and Sirish Kumar agreed to return to Hyderabad. To make the journey back, all three individuals boarded the Sabari Express.

However, the journey took a tragic turn as the train neared its destination. As the Sabari Express approached the Secunderabad Railway Station, Sirish Kumar and Neelaveni allegedly consumed poison and subsequently lost consciousness. Upon realizing what had happened, Sirish Kumar’s wife immediately alerted the police for assistance.

Railway authorities and police personnel rushed to the scene and shifted both unconscious individuals to Gandhi Hospital for emergency medical care. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Neelaveni succumbed to the effects of the poison at approximately 1:00 AM on Thursday.

Sirish Kumar continues to receive medical treatment at the hospital, where doctors are closely monitoring his health status. Meanwhile, local investigators have initiated a probe into the incident. The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances that led to the alleged joint suicide attempt, including how the pair managed to acquire the poison while on the train journey.
