Woman Cheated of 20 Tolas of Gold in Ritual Fraud in Tukkuguda

A 55-year-old woman from Tukkuguda in Maheshwaram on the outskirts of Hyderabad was allegedly cheated of 20 tolas of gold by an unidentified woman who claimed she could cure her daughter's health problems through rituals.

The complainant, identified as Anasuya, was reportedly convinced by her tenant, Lakshmi, that a woman possessed the ability to heal her daughter using mantras. Following the tenant's recommendation, the woman visited Anasuya's residence to perform the supposed healing process.

During the visit, the woman instructed Anasuya to place her gold ornaments inside a pit in the puja room for several days as part of the ritual requirement. Trusting her words, Anasuya handed over approximately 20 tolas of gold.

The accused then had a pit dug directly in front of the household idols and brought in a brass vessel. According to the complaint, the woman secretly transferred the genuine gold ornaments into her own bag and substituted them with a bundle containing fake jewellery inside the vessel before burying it in the pit.

The woman told Anasuya that she would return after 19 days to conclude the ritual and subsequently left the house. However, when the woman failed to return within the promised timeframe, the family grew suspicious.

The family members recently dug up the pit and opened the buried bundle, only to discover iron rings instead of the original gold ornaments.

Upon realising they had been duped, Anasuya lodged a formal complaint with the Pahadishareef police on Tuesday. Following the complaint, the police took Lakshmi into custody and are currently questioning her regarding her role in the fraud.
