Woman and 6-Year-Old Daughter Found Dead in Well in Mancherial's Lingapur
A 26-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter were found dead in an agricultural well in Lingapur village of Dandepalli mandal on Sunday morning after the woman allegedly jumped into the water with the child tied to her waist.
The deceased have been identified as Gotla Rajitha, 26, and her daughter Akshitha, 6. The incident came to light when passersby noticed the bodies floating in the well near the village and immediately alerted family members and local authorities.
According to Dandepalli Sub-Inspector G Rajavardhan, Rajitha had been married to Merugu Anjaiah, a resident of Venugumatla in Jagtial district, for seven years. The couple had two children together: six-year-old Akshitha and an 18-month-old son named Mahender.
Police said Rajitha and Anjaiah had been facing ongoing marital disputes. Following these persistent issues, Rajitha had left her marital home and had been living with her parents in Lingapur village for some time. Her husband, Anjaiah, would occasionally travel to the village to visit the children.
On Sunday morning, Rajitha’s parents left the house to go to work. Soon after their departure, Anjaiah arrived at the residence as usual, spent some time with his two children, and subsequently left the village.
Shortly after Anjaiah departed, Rajitha put her 18-month-old son to sleep at the house. She then took Akshitha with her and walked towards an agricultural well situated near the outskirts of the village. Investigators stated that she allegedly tied Akshitha to her waist before jumping into the water.
Passersby walking in the vicinity later spotted the bodies floating in the well and raised an alarm, notifying the family. Local police were alerted to the scene shortly thereafter and retrieved both bodies from the well.
The Dandepalli police have registered a case regarding the incident. A detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact circumstances and sequence of events that led to the deaths.
