Wipro Consumer Care Enters Pet Food Market with Launch of Snuggles Brand

HYDERABAD — Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting has entered the fast-growing pet food sector with the launch of its pet nutrition brand, Snuggles, unveiled on International Dog Day.
The launch marks Wipro's first foray into a new category since it initially expanded into the foods business in 2022. The move comes as several other major corporate players, including Godrej, Reliance, Avanti, and Growel, have recently made entries into India's expanding pet care and nutrition segment.
To support the launch, Wipro has partnered with Thai agri-industrial conglomerate Betagro Group for research and development, technology, and manufacturing. Alongside this international partnership, the company is evaluating the possibility of setting up local production at one of its nine existing manufacturing facilities across India.
Anil Chugh, president of the foods business and chief executive officer of new business at Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting, highlighted that India ranks among the fastest-growing pet food markets globally. He noted that the surge is being propelled by rapid urbanisation, lifestyle changes, and an increasing cultural shift toward treating household pets as family members.
According to Chugh, the domestic pet food category is benefiting from strong global tailwinds and currently experiencing an annual growth rate of 16% to 18%. He expressed confidence that this growth momentum will sustain over the coming five to seven years.
Industry figures cited by the company estimate India's pet food market at approximately ₹5,500 crore, while the broader pet care sector stands at around ₹8,000 crore. Chugh stated that even at a more conservative growth rate of 10% to 12%, the pet food market alone has the potential to expand to between ₹15,000 crore and ₹20,000 crore over the next five to seven years.
