Weapons and Assault Rifles Stolen from Secunderabad Army Facility

Multiple assault rifles, pistols, and ammunition magazines were stolen from an army storage facility in the Secunderabad cantonment area on Monday after door locks were found broken.

The theft was detected at approximately 7:50 AM during the routine opening of the Kote and Battalion Magazine ammunition storage. The missing inventory includes five assault rifles—comprising four AK-47s and an INSAS rifle—along with pistols, 21 magazines, and other weapons. All items had been physically accounted for on the previous day.

A First Information Report was registered following a complaint by a Lieutenant Colonel of the Madras Regiment at Bollarum in the Secunderabad cantonment. The exact timing and circumstances surrounding the break-in remain under investigation.

Following the discovery, military authorities initiated security protocols, securing and sealing the storage area and informing the chain of command. Officials launched a search across authorised storage spaces and adjacent premises, while carrying out a complete re-verification of weapons, ammunition holdings, and accounting logs.

Investigators and army officials have begun questioning guards, security personnel, and individuals who had authorised access to the facility. Authorities are examining potential unauthorised movement, possession, or misuse of the missing arms.

The army unit confirmed that receipt registers and access records have been verified, adding that it will provide all documentation and extend full cooperation to investigating agencies.
