Wasim Jaffer Appointed Mentor of Hyderabad Cricket Association for Two Years

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in Hyderabad appointed former India batter Wasim Jaffer as its new mentor on 29 June 2026. Jaffer has agreed to a two-year term with the association, marking a major step in the ongoing restructuring of the local cricket administration and development framework.

The appointment of the 48-year-old Mumbai cricketer is aimed at bringing extensive international and domestic experience to the Hyderabad cricket circuit. Jaffer played 31 Test matches for India during his international career, scoring a total of 1,944 runs. His international record includes five centuries and 11 half-centuries.

Beyond his international career, Jaffer possesses an outstanding first-class cricket record. He played 260 first-class matches, accumulating 19,410 runs. His domestic career features 57 centuries and 91 half-centuries, making him one of the most prolific run-scorers in Indian domestic cricket history.

This development comes a few months after former India cricketer and local icon Ambati Rayudu was appointed as the Head of Cricket Operations at the HCA. Rayudu has been actively working to revamp the association's structure, having already overseen the organization of multiple leagues and tournaments. His administrative efforts have placed a strong emphasis on maintaining transparency within the association.

However, the decision to appoint Jaffer appeared to surprise some within the association's leadership. When contacted regarding the appointment, a senior member of the HCA Apex Council revealed that they were entirely unaware of the decision beforehand. The official stated that they only came to know about Jaffer's new role as mentor after the decision had already been made.

With both Jaffer and Rayudu now holding key positions, the HCA continues its efforts to reform and develop cricket administration in the region.
