Warangal PM MITRA Park Operational with 548 Acres Allotted, MoS Tells Lok Sabha

Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the Central government has finalised Warangal as one of seven sites across the country for setting up PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks. Responding to a question raised by BJP MP M Raghunandan Rao regarding the PM MITRA Park for Telangana, the minister confirmed that the Warangal site was selected under the brownfield category.

The minister stated that Rs 300 crore has already been expended towards the development of trunk infrastructure at the Warangal site. The park is currently operational, with approximately 548 acres of land already allotted to industrial investors, and commercial production at the facility has officially started. The park was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 10, 2026.

Once the project is fully completed, the PM MITRA Park in Warangal is envisaged to generate one lakh direct jobs and two lakh indirect jobs. Even with existing commitments alone, the park is expected to create over 24,400 direct employment opportunities for the region.

The operating apparel units at the site currently feature a workforce that is strongly majority-women. In addition, structured skilling programs and local preference policies have been put in place to ensure gainful employment for local youth and vulnerable sections of society, including Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), with the goal of fostering inclusive regional development.

The broader PM MITRA scheme was approved by the Union government to build integrated, large-scale, and modern industrial infrastructure facilities serving the entire value chain of the textile industry. The scheme encompasses seven parks in total, established across both Greenfield and brownfield sites, backed by a total approved scheme outlay of Rs 4,445 crore covering the period from 2021-22 to 2027-28.

Regarding funding for the handloom sector, the minister clarified in Parliament that budget allocations are not made on a State-wise basis. Funds are instead released directly to eligible handloom agencies based on the receipt of viable project proposals under extant scheme guidelines.
