Vishvanath Suresh Leads Indian Boxers to Wins at Asian Championships in Jakarta

HYDERABAD — Asian champion Vishvanath Suresh led India's dominant campaign on Day 2 of the U-23 Asian Boxing Championships in Jakarta, securing a commanding victory alongside three other Indian fighters. The event, which concluded its second day of bouts on 6 July 2026, highlighted India's depth in both the men's and women's divisions with four dominant 5:0 victories, despite one loss due to disqualification.

In the 50kg category, Suresh set the tone for the Indian contingent by securing a commanding 5:0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Amirbek Ismoilov. The Asian champion's performance established a strong foundation for the rest of the matches on Day 2.

Following Suresh's lead, Ganga continued India's impressive run in the men's division. Competing in the 55kg weight category, Ganga delivered a clinical performance to defeat Mongolia’s Amgalanbaatar Bulgankhuu. The match ended in a unanimous 5:0 decision in favor of the Indian boxer, further establishing India's strong presence at the tournament.

In the 70kg division, Hitesh added further momentum to the Indian squad's campaign. He achieved an equally dominant 5:0 win over Chinese Taipei’s Jun-Zhanglin. The victory further underlined India's competitive depth across the various weight categories in the tournament.

The men's division, however, was not without setbacks. In the 60kg bout, Indian boxer Sagar Jakhar suffered a defeat. Jakhar lost his match by disqualification to Japan’s Koichi Nakayama.

In the women's category, Tanu kept India's winning streak alive in the 51kg division. She secured a confident 5:0 victory over Korea’s Ryeongyeon Kim. Throughout the bout, Tanu showcased control and precision to secure her win.

The collective performance of Vishvanath Suresh, Ganga, Hitesh, and Tanu on Day 2 of the U-23 Asian Boxing Championships demonstrated the strength of the Indian boxing contingent in Jakarta.
