Vikramarka Orders Power Action Plan and Substations Under Flyovers in Gachibowli

During an energy department review meeting on Saturday, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply amid the El Niño effect, specifically highlighting infrastructure solutions for Gachibowli and neighboring IT corridors.

The review meeting was held at the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) corporate office in Hyderabad. During the session, Vikramarka emphasized that maintaining a reliable power supply is essential, particularly for securing drinking water needs and supporting agricultural activities.

To address the acute shortage of land for constructing new sub-stations in high-demand areas of Greater Hyderabad—including Gachibowli, Kondapur, and Madhapur—the Deputy Chief Minister suggested an innovative spatial solution. He instructed officials to coordinate with the municipal department to establish new substations in the spaces available under flyovers.

In addition to local infrastructure solutions, Vikramarka focused on the financial health of the state's power sector. He instructed officials to prioritize the recovery of outstanding electricity dues from various government departments. This acceleration of revenue collection is intended to strengthen financial discipline within the state's electricity distribution companies (discoms).

The Deputy Chief Minister also introduced plans for modernization and renewable energy integration. He requested the preparation of a plan to install solar power facilities at all Anganwadi centres across the state.

For broader infrastructure upgrades, Vikramarka stated that all substations under TGSPDCL should undergo modernization in a phased manner. He pointed to the model substation developed at Midjil in Mahabubnagar district as the standard example to follow for these upgrades.

Finally, the Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to expand the 'Power Ambulance' services statewide. The service, which is modelled on the 108 emergency response system, will be scaled up to handle urgent electricity issues across Telangana.
