Vijay Deverakonda and Mohammed Siraj Launch Sreenidhi University TG20

The Sreenidhi University TG20 cricket tournament officially commenced on Sunday evening, June 21, 2026, with a grand opening ceremony at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The inaugural event for Telangana’s premier T20 competition brought together prominent figures from Indian cricket, entertainment, and local administration to support emerging local talent.

The star-studded ceremony was attended by several notable dignitaries, including Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) Acting President Sardar Daljit Singh, and BCCI Apex Council Member V Chamundeswaranath. Other key officials present included HCA Secretary M Jeevan Reddy, Treasurer Dr Anil Kumar, Joint Secretary Basava Raju, Governing Council Chairman V Agam Rao, and Governing Council Member C Sanjeev Reddy.

Sreenidhi University TG20 Brand Ambassador Vijay Deverakonda, former India cricketer and Head of Cricket Operations Ambati Rayudu, and active India international bowler Mohammed Siraj also graced the occasion to encourage the young participants.

Addressing the crowd and the young cricketers, Deverakonda expressed his hopes for the tournament's impact on local sports. "With this league, I’m hoping we get more superstars from Telangana. I’ll be so happy to see players playing for the Indian team," Deverakonda said.

Rayudu highlighted the immense potential of the region's players and urged them to seize the opportunity. "The talent that we have here is immense. Over the years, the number of players from Hyderabad and Telangana should double," Rayudu stated.

Siraj also shared words of encouragement for the players, calling the tournament a massive platform. "It’s a very big platform for everyone. Express yourself and enjoy this tournament," Siraj remarked.

The festive atmosphere at the stadium was further elevated by a performance from Thaman S, drawing enthusiastic responses from the fans who packed the stands. The tournament aims to serve as a key platform for nurturing and promoting young cricketing talent across the state of Telangana.
