Videos Reveal Stray Dogs, Rats and Poor Hygiene in JNTU-Hyderabad Hostels
Students residing at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-Hyderabad) in Hyderabad have raised serious concerns over living conditions after multiple videos surfaced showing rats, stray dogs, and cats roaming through hostel rooms and corridors.
The issue came to light on Friday after female students circulated a video showing a rat moving inside a cupboard located within a room at the PG Women’s Hostel. The footage prompted fresh worries regarding sanitation, maintenance, and student safety inside the campus living quarters.
Two additional video clips recorded in the first-year Girls’ Hostel showed stray animals freely wandering through the hallways. In one recording, a stray dog was captured walking down a hostel corridor in search of food near an overflowing dustbin. Another clip documented a cat sitting right beside the same unemptied dustbin, further highlighting issues with waste management and general premises upkeep.
The viral recordings follow formal complaints that hostel inmates had already submitted to the college administration on Thursday. Students reported that water filters across the hostels had become defunct, resulting in dirty and unhygienic drinking water being dispensed to residents.
Hostel residents also raised grievances regarding the sanitation of washrooms and bathrooms throughout the buildings. According to the students, several toilets and commodes have become completely non-functional, and residents frequently face an inadequate supply of running water across the facilities.
