VC Sajjanar Outlines School Transit Safety Rules For Parents And Drivers In Hyderabad

On Tuesday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar emphasized that parents, school managements, and drivers must work together responsibly to ensure the road safety of children during their daily school transit. Speaking in Hyderabad, Sajjanar highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to prevent accidents when children are being dropped off or picked up from school.

The commissioner's address came in light of a recent incident that took place in Maharashtra. Sajjanar stated that children should be taught fundamental road safety rules from an early age, specifically encouraging them to develop the habit of "Stop, Look, and Cross." This involves teaching children to look both ways before crossing the road and to cross slowly only when there are no vehicles.

Sajjanar advised that young children should not cross the road alone as much as possible, stating that it is best to ensure they are supervised by an adult. He noted that it is not only the responsibility of the bus staff to transport students, but also to ensure they get off the bus safely.

Under these safety measures, the school bus attendant should personally accompany the student until they cross the road safely or have been handed over to their parents. Furthermore, school buses should be stopped only at safe bus stops and not in crowded or unsafe locations.

For other motorists, Sajjanar urged drivers to significantly reduce their vehicle speeds when traveling through school zones or areas where school buses are stopped. He warned that drivers must remain extremely alert, as children may suddenly run onto the road from in front of or behind a stopped bus. He concluded by stating that a moment of patience and alertness can prevent tragedies from entering families.
