Vanasthalipuram Woman Duped of Rs 15 Lakh, Threatened After Broken Engagement

A 33-year-old insurance company deputy manager residing in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad, has approached the police alleging that a Tirupati-based man she met on a dating app cheated her of Rs 15 lakh, harassed her, and threatened her life following a cancelled engagement.

According to the complainant, the two had met through a dating application and later got engaged in April. Before the engagement, the man allegedly took Rs 15 lakh from her after claiming that he required the funds to set up a software company in the United States that would focus on developing medicines for breast cancer.

The relationship deteriorated when the man allegedly began pressuring the woman to pay her entire dowry in advance. Refusing to comply with the demands, the woman subsequently called off the engagement.

Following the cancellation, the woman alleged that the man initiated severe harassment against her. He reportedly sent defamatory emails to her workplace and threatened to throw acid on her or kill her. According to the victim, the extreme nature of these threats forced her to stay indoors out of fear for her safety.

The woman first approached the police regarding the harassment in June, but she stated that the threats and misconduct did not stop. On August 4, the Tirupati-based man lodged a complaint against her with the Tirupati police, who registered a case based on his claims.

On August 5, the woman lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram police, stating that the case in Tirupati had been registered against her without authorities hearing her side of the story. The Vanasthalipuram police are currently investigating the matter and reviewing the complaints filed by both parties.
