UGC Approves Five New Academic Programmes At Hyderabads BRAOU

The Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) in Hyderabad has received official approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to introduce five new academic programmes. The university announced the approval on 15 July 2026, paving the way for the launch of these courses in the current academic year.

The newly approved programmes consist of MA Education, MA Education (School Administration), MSW, MSc Geography, and the renewal of BEd Special Education.

This approval follows a rigorous evaluation process. In June, a UGC expert committee conducted a virtual inspection of the Hyderabad-based university. The committee assessed several key areas, including BRAOU's academic preparedness, infrastructure, learner support systems, digital resources, and overall regulatory compliance, before granting final approval for the programmes.

BRAOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani highlighted the significance of the three education-specific programmes. He stated that these courses will offer valuable opportunities for teachers working in both government and private educational institutions to upgrade their qualifications. The curriculum is expected to enhance their professional competencies in crucial areas such as educational leadership, school administration, and educational management.

Furthermore, Prof. Chakrapani revealed that the university proposes to collaborate with the School Education department. Under this proposed agreement, BRAOU plans to train teachers across the state of Telangana in structured phases. This initiative is designed to contribute to the continuous professional development of educators and to foster improved school leadership across the region.

BRAOU will shortly issue an official admission notification to initiate the enrollment process for these five programmes. Admissions are set to commence for the upcoming academic year.
