Two Telangana Prison Cops Win BPR&D Commendation Discs For National Meet

The Union Home Ministry’s Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has conferred the Director General's commendation discs and certificates upon Telangana’s top prison officials. Director General of Prisons Dr. Soumya Mishra and Inspector General of Prisons M. Sampath received these prestigious honors in recognition of their pivotal contributions to the successful organization and conduct of the 7th All India Prison Duty Meet–2025, which took place at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy in Hyderabad.

According to an official statement released by the state prisons department on Friday, the multi-day event stands as one of the largest national prison sporting competitions ever organized in India. The state’s prisons and correctional services department took on the responsibility of hosting the massive national-level meet.

The event saw a significant turnout from law enforcement and correctional personnel from across the nation. Approximately 1,300 prison officials and personnel, representing 24 different states and Union Territories, arrived in Hyderabad to participate. Throughout the meet, these representatives competed in a diverse range of both professional and sporting events designed to test their skills and athletic abilities.

The recognition from the Union Home Ministry extended beyond the top leadership. Alongside the commendation discs presented to Dr. Soumya Mishra and M. Sampath, the Director General of the BPR&D also awarded commendation certificates to several other dedicated officers of the Telangana prisons department for their hard work in ensuring the event's success.

In addition to successfully managing the logistics of the massive gathering, the host state achieved significant competitive success. The Telangana contingent put on a stellar performance across the various categories, ultimately emerging as the overall champions of the national meet.

The flawless execution of the event drew praise from the highest levels of the state government. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy lauded the prisons and correctional services department for their exceptional organization of the meet. The Chief Minister also congratulated the members of the Telangana contingent for their dedication and for securing the overall championship title.
