Two killed and eight injured in multi-vehicle crash on NH-65 near Gundrampalli

Two people were killed and eight others sustained injuries on Sunday morning when a pickup van suffered a tyre burst, crossed the highway median, and collided with two cars on NH-65 near Gundrampalli village in Chityal mandal of Nalgonda district.
The fatal accident took place as one of the cars involved was heading towards Hyderabad. The deceased individuals have been identified by the police as 55-year-old Kasireddy Devender Reddy and his relative, 60-year-old D Saritha. Both of the deceased were residents of Akkenapally village, which is located in the Narketpally mandal of Nalgonda district.
According to Chityala Sub-Inspector M Ravi Kumar, the incident occurred when a group of six persons from Akkenapally village were travelling together in a Swift sedan, heading towards Hyderabad.
As their car reached the vicinity of Gundrampalli village in Chityal mandal, a pickup van was travelling in the opposite direction, heading from Hyderabad towards Vijayawada. The pickup van suddenly went out of control after suffering a tyre burst.
Sub-Inspector M Ravi Kumar stated that the pickup van crossed over the highway median and rammed directly into the Swift sedan coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision caused severe injuries to the pickup van driver as well as all six occupants who were travelling inside the sedan.
During the collision, another vehicle, an SUV, also came into contact with the two crashing vehicles. The impact caused the SUV to overturn on the highway. Three persons who were travelling inside the SUV sustained injuries during the crash, while the driver of the SUV managed to escape from the incident unhurt.
Following the high-impact collision, the occupants of the Swift sedan remained trapped inside the mangled vehicle for some time. Local passersby who witnessed the accident rushed to the spot to assist. They managed to rescue the trapped passengers from the vehicle and shifted them to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
