Two booked after woman rides on modified car roof on Hyderabad RGIA road

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered a criminal case against two individuals after a woman was filmed sitting on the rooftop of a moving, illegally modified car on the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) road towards Shamshabad, Hyderabad. The police action was initiated after a video of the incident went viral on social media, having been uploaded on July 14, 2026.

According to the police, the vehicle involved in the incident was a car bearing the registration number TG08AG9218. At the time the footage was recorded, the car was travelling along the airport road towards Shamshabad. The driver of the vehicle was identified by authorities as G. Sai Tharun.

The passenger who was seen sitting on the rooftop of the moving vehicle was identified as V. Lakshmi Priyanka, an IT employee from Prakasam district. The video showing Priyanka on the roof of the moving car was widely shared on the social media platform X, drawing the attention of the local traffic authorities.

Following the circulation of the video online, the RGIA Traffic Police initiated an inquiry into the matter. The subsequent investigation by the traffic police revealed that the vehicle had been illegally modified. Specifically, the roof of the car had been removed or opened without any official authorisation, creating a safety hazard on the road.

Based on a formal complaint lodged by the RGIA Traffic Police Station, the RGI Airport Police Station registered a criminal case against both G. Sai Tharun and V. Lakshmi Priyanka. The case has been registered under Sections 125 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life and public safety.
