Two arrested in Habeeb Nagar with 77,700 prescription tablets worth Rs 10 lakh

The Special Crime Team of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Hyderabad, in coordination with the Habeeb Nagar Police, arrested two men on Saturday for allegedly possessing and illegally selling a large quantity of prescription medicines and cough syrup in the Habeeb Nagar and Mallepally areas of Hyderabad.
The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammed Sarvar, who also goes by the alias Raheem, a 30-year-old driver from Mangar Basthi, Afzal Sagar, Mallepally, and Mohammed Rabbani, a 32-year-old band master, also from Afzal Sagar, Mallepally. Six other suspects from Hyderabad and Bidar remain absconding.
During the joint operation, police seized 77,700 prescription tablets and 170 bottles of Choco cough syrup (100 ml). The total value of the seized pharmaceuticals is estimated to be approximately Rs 10 lakh.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) M Srinivas, the seized tablets consisted of 49,200 NitraZohm-10 tablets, 18,300 Nitcor-10 tablets, and 10,200 Nitravet-10 tablets.
The official stated that the suspects allegedly procured the medicines from suppliers based in Bidar and transported them to Hyderabad to sell illegally without any authorization. Additional Commissioner Srinivas noted that the primary buyers of these substances were habitual offenders and individuals intending to commit crimes.
The seized tablets are prescription drugs typically used to treat medical conditions such as insomnia, chest pain, and certain seizure disorders. The seized cough syrup is intended to treat dry coughs and the common cold.
Srinivas warned that the misuse of these specific medications can lead to severe side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, impaired coordination, and a rapid heartbeat. The police are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the six remaining suspects involved in the illegal distribution network.
