Tummala Nageswara Rao Announces Plan To Tackle El Nino At ICRISAT In Hyderabad

The Telangana government has prepared a comprehensive three-phase contingency plan to effectively address the agricultural challenges posed by El Nino, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced on Monday at ICRISAT in Hyderabad.

During the meeting, Minister Rao instructed officials to be fully ready to implement the first phase of this three-phase pre-emptive action plan. This initial phase is aimed at preventing local farmers from suffering due to the El Nino weather conditions.

According to Minister Rao, the state government has already taken a wide range of precautionary measures. These steps have been designed to ensure that the administration can effectively address any situation that arises as a result of the changing weather patterns.

To formulate the strategy, the minister held a comprehensive review session with scientists from several major research bodies. The discussions involved representatives from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University.

Other key scientific institutions participating in the review at ICRISAT included the Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR), the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), and the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA). Senior officials from the state's agriculture and allied sectors also attended the meeting to help coordinate the upcoming phases of the plan.
