TRSMA Demands Protection Act After Hyderabad School Principal Roopa Reddy Murder

The Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) on Saturday demanded a dedicated law to protect teachers, principals, and educational institutions from threats and violence, following the murder of private school principal Roopa Reddy allegedly by two students in Hyderabad.
Speaking at a press conference, TRSMA sought a time-bound investigation and a speedy trial in the murder case. The association formally called for the enactment of a Teachers & Schools Protection Act to ensure safety across campuses in Telangana.
TRSMA president Sadula Madhusudan stated that the incident had created a serious sense of insecurity among teachers, principals, and management, particularly in private schools. The association highlighted that a substantial share of private school educators are women and urged authorities to pay special attention to their safety and dignity.
General secretary N. Ramesh Rao said the proposed legislation should provide legal safeguards against assaults, threats, intimidation, unlawful entry into school premises, vandalism, damage to property, and disruptions of academic activities. TRSMA also proposed a coordinated school safety and teacher protection mechanism involving the Education department, police, and district administration.
Emphasising that parents and schools are equal partners in raising and educating children, the association urged greater parental responsibility regarding student discipline and behaviour. Association member P. Raghavendra Reddy noted that schools require reasonable freedom, subject to due process, to issue transfer certificates in cases of persistent misconduct or violent behaviour.
Additionally, TRSMA called for counselling, anger management, conflict resolution, and behavioural-support programmes for students, especially adolescents. The association announced plans to submit its formal demands to the Chief Minister and senior officials.
