TPCC Panel Recommends Dropping Konda Surekha and Chinna Reddy

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Disciplinary Committee has recommended removing Forest Minister Konda Surekha from the State Cabinet and G Chinna Reddy from his post as vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission in Hyderabad. The recommendations follow controversial statements made by both leaders in recent times.

The committee submitted its formal report to TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday. The report will now be sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for further examination and a final decision.

The disciplinary action against Konda Surekha follows comments made by her daughter, who alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy handed over prime land to his brother’s shell company at a throwaway price. While the Minister claimed innocence by stating she could not be questioned for remarks made by her daughter, party MLAs maintained she should have condemned the comments. The committee noted that complaints had been raised against Konda Surekha in the past over objectionable remarks.

In the case of Chinna Reddy, the leader had alleged that an MLA ticket was offered to Wanaparthy MLA T Megha Reddy in 2023 after he was lured with money. The committee observed that it was inappropriate for a senior leader who has held multiple posts to make offensive comments against the party.

Disciplinary Committee chairman Mallu Ravi stated that stern action was recommended to protect the party's interests and prevent negative public opinion. Addressing a press conference, Ravi said party cadres would respect the leadership only if senior leaders maintained discipline.

Ravi emphasized that failing to send a strong message on discipline could impact the party's electoral prospects. He confirmed that the report was finalized after reviewing the explanations submitted by both leaders, adding that the AICC high command will take the ultimate decision on the matter.
