Town Planning Officer Suspended and Builder Arrested After Gachibowli Building Collapse

Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner G Srijana on Sunday suspended Town Planning Building Officer (TPBO) U Santosh Kumar with immediate effect following the collapse of an unauthorised building at Anjaiahnagar in Gachibowli village, Serilingampally mandal.

According to a preliminary report prepared by the town planning wing, the structure had been constructed by Farheen Siddiq and Sajid without the required municipal building permissions and without adhering to prescribed setbacks. The report noted that the Town Planning section had previously issued notices regarding the unauthorised construction on June 17, 2026.

The official suspension order stated that Santosh Kumar, who served as TPBO for Circle-50 in Madhapur, failed to take the necessary enforcement action to halt the illegal construction. The administration noted that this failure resulted in a loss of life and endangered public safety. Disciplinary proceedings have now been contemplated against the officer.

Following the incident, the town planning wing submitted a formal report to the Raidurgam police seeking the registration of a criminal case against Farheen Siddiq, Md Sajid, and others under applicable legal provisions.

Raidurgam police confirmed that builder Sajid has been arrested in connection with the collapse. Police stated that contractor Khaza Moizuddin remains absconding, and search efforts are currently underway to trace him as the investigation continues.
