Top UK, US Universities Plan Offshore Campuses in Hyderabad, Says CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad is set to emerge as India's first and largest global knowledge hub, with leading universities from the United Kingdom and the United States exploring offshore campuses, research centres, and executive education programmes across the city. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reviewed the outcomes of his visit to the UK alongside IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and a subsequent US tour by senior officials on Monday.

According to officials, the University of London, a federation of 17 independent institutions, and Northeastern University in Boston are set to establish their first Indian offshore campuses in Hyderabad. The London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies have also agreed to send delegations to Telangana to explore offshore schools, course offerings, industry interaction, new pedagogical models, and classroom-based programmes, with faculty members potentially stationed in Hyderabad.

Harvard University has expressed intent to launch short-term executive education programmes for senior government and corporate professionals at the Dr MCR HRD Institute in Hyderabad. Virginia Tech is expected to introduce industry-aligned and future-ready learning frameworks, while Oxford University will explore setting up shared research centres and centres of excellence in the State.

The State delegation also held discussions with representatives and senior faculty from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London Business School, Cambridge University, and Imperial College London.

Chief Minister Reddy stated that the government is committed to bringing top-tier educational offerings to the youth and children of Telangana, building upon Hyderabad's existing strengths in software, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, manufacturing, defence, and aerospace.

Dr MCR HRD Institute vice-chairperson Santhi Kumari stated that classrooms at the institute are being redesigned to facilitate world-class educational programmes. Chief Minister’s adviser and former Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao noted that the global knowledge hub will initially be developed using facilities at the MCR-HRD Institute before subsequently expanding to Bharat Future City.
