Tollywood Celebrities in Jubilee Hills Opt to Retain Voting Rights in Andhra Pradesh

Several Tollywood celebrities and film industry personalities residing in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad have opted to give up their local voting rights to retain their franchise in their native places in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The decision came to light during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls conducted across the city. According to officials from the Telangana Chief Electoral Office, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and election personnel contacted residents in the constituency, where a majority of prominent individuals from the Telugu film industry and other sectors indicated their preference to remain registered in their hometowns.

Telangana Chief Electoral Office officials confirmed that several celebrities, including members of prominent film families, decided to accord prominence to their native places. Officials stated that when staff reached out during the verification process, the personalities clarified their intent to retain their votes in Andhra Pradesh while giving them up in Hyderabad, even if they had not regularly cast their ballots in their native towns in past elections.

The Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency houses a large section of the Telugu film fraternity, including actors, directors, and producers who have lived and owned residences in the locality for several decades, spending most of their personal and professional lives there.

Data gathered during the SIR exercise revealed significant updates in the Jubilee Hills constituency. A total of 1,48,859 electors were recorded as permanently shifted, marking the highest count among the 15 constituencies in Hyderabad. The revision also documented 8,232 deceased voters, 13,500 untraceable electors, and 7,279 voters who were already enrolled elsewhere.

Election officials noted that the desire to maintain active ties with their hometowns, along with owning agricultural land and other properties in Andhra Pradesh, influenced the decision of several celebrities to keep their registrations in their native places.
