TIMS Hyderabad Reserves 50 Beds For Foreign Patients In Medical Tourism Push

Dr. Marri Chennareddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Dr. MCR TIMS) in Hyderabad has launched a special initiative to provide healthcare services to international patients, reserving 50 beds exclusively for foreign nationals.

To oversee the management of special wards, international agreements, monitoring, and translation services, the Health Department has constituted a dedicated Medical Tourism Promotion Committee. The panel will ensure that all required medical and logistical support services are made accessible to patients travelling from abroad.

The initiative forms part of the state government's plan to develop Telangana into a medical tourism hub by providing advanced care at affordable costs. Focus specialities include organ transplantation, cardiac surgeries, oncology, neurology, orthopaedics, urology, nephrology, and pulmonology.

To address potential issues concerning health insurance and administrative documentation, the government will enter into formal agreements with foreign governments. Officials have already initiated negotiations for Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to assist patients arriving from African and Arab countries.

The institute's Executive Council has decided to structure fee collection for medical services at TIMS on the lines of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). The department affirmed that free medical care for underprivileged patients will continue under the state's Aarogyasri scheme.
