On Thursday evening, July 2, 2026, a sudden and intense spell of rain lashed several parts of Hyderabad, catching commuters off guard. The heavy downpour, which began shortly after 8 p.m., affected key localities including Marredpally, AOC Centre, Safilguda, Moula Ali, Kukatpally, Bowenpally, Nacharam, Chintal, and AS Rao Nagar. The rainfall caused waterlogging at several road junctions and slowed down traffic across the city.
Prior to the evening downpour, Hyderabad had remained under cloudy skies for most of the day on Thursday. The weather took a sharp turn shortly after 8 p.m. when rain began falling in multiple areas, catching many residents and travellers unprepared as they went about their evening routines.
The rainfall was particularly intense in the areas of Marredpally, AOC Centre, Safilguda, and Moula Ali. As the downpour grew heavier, many commuters on the road were forced to seek immediate shelter. Numerous individuals took cover under trees and beneath railway bridges to protect themselves from the intense rain.
The sudden weather event also caused disruptions on the local roads. Waterlogging was reported at a few road junctions across the affected areas. This accumulation of water on the streets led to a noticeable slowdown in traffic movement, creating challenges for drivers and commuters trying to navigate the city's streets during the late evening hours.
Official figures from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) provided details on the rainfall distribution across different parts of the city. According to the TGDPS data recorded as of 10 p.m. on Thursday, Medchal registered the highest rainfall among the monitored locations, recording 11.3 mm of rain.
Other areas in and around the city also recorded notable rainfall levels. The TGDPS reported that Keesara registered 9 mm of rain, while Kukatpally recorded 7 mm. The localities of Bowenpally and Moula Ali each recorded 6.8 mm of rainfall. Furthermore, Nacharam recorded 6 mm, Chintal recorded 5.8 mm, and AS Rao Nagar recorded 5.3 mm of rain during the evening hours.
