Three sports bodies launch Hyderabad Youth League for grassroots football

On 5 July 2026, the Hyderabad Youth League (HYL) was officially launched in Hyderabad to establish a brand-new, structured, and season-long grassroots football competition. The initiative is designed to provide local academies, clubs, and educational institutions with a unified and sustainable platform for consistent, year-round competition.

The newly formed league is a collaborative effort organised jointly by three of the city's most established grassroots football organisations: the Hyderabad Football League, the Hyderabad Super League, and the Hyderabad Football Academy. Together, these three entities aim to strengthen the youth football ecosystem across Hyderabad by working in partnership.

The competition will adopt a championship model that runs from August to May. It will feature matches across five distinct age groups, specifically the under-8, under-10, under-13, under-16, and under-18 categories. By providing a consistent competitive calendar, the league aims to bridge existing gaps in the local sports landscape, allowing young players, schools, and participating institutions to plan and develop over an entire season rather than preparing only for isolated events.

Faiz Khan, the Co-Founder of the Hyderabad Youth League, emphasised the importance of this structured format for the city's young athletes. Khan stated that Hyderabad has long needed a structured and consistent platform where young footballers can compete regularly and continue developing throughout the year.

He added that the Hyderabad Youth League represents the beginning of that journey. According to Khan, the ultimate goal of the organisers is to create a sustainable ecosystem where every academy, club, and school has access to meaningful competition, ensuring that every young player has the opportunity to improve through regular match experience.

The inaugural season of the Hyderabad Youth League is scheduled to begin this August. According to the organising bodies, player registrations and specific competition details for the upcoming season will be announced by the league shortly.
