Three arrested with ganja worth Rs 20.56 lakh at Secunderabad Railway Station

The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), working in coordination with the EAGLE team, has busted an interstate ganja smuggling racket and arrested three transporters, including a 17-year-old juvenile, at the Secunderabad Railway Station in Hyderabad. The joint law enforcement operation resulted in the seizure of 41.131 kg of dry ganja, which is valued at Rs 20.56 lakh, successfully disrupting an active interstate smuggling route.

In addition to the 17-year-old juvenile, who is classified as a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL), the police arrested 25-year-old Mahesh Dilip Wandhare and 30-year-old Kartik Chandrakant Ambe. Both Wandhare and Ambe are from Nagpur. Meanwhile, the supplier of the contraband, identified as Sanju Sahu of Balangir, Odisha, is currently absconding.

According to the police, the smuggling operation was initiated when Sanju Sahu offered Wandhare a payment of Rs 5,000 per trip to transport ganja from Balangir to Nagpur. Wandhare then allegedly roped in Ambe to assist with the transportation, and the 17-year-old juvenile joined the two of them at a later stage.

The trio gathered the contraband, collecting 40 packets of dry ganja at the Balangir railway station on July 3. They then boarded the Nagavali Express and travelled to Charlapalli, arriving at their destination on July 4.

On July 5, the group proceeded to the Secunderabad Railway Station. Their plan was to board the Dakshin Express to Nagpur to complete the delivery of the illicit cargo. However, the Secunderabad GRP and the EAGLE team intercepted the three individuals at the station before they could board the train, leading to their arrest and the recovery of the contraband.

The police seized the 41.131 kg of dry ganja, valued at Rs 20.56 lakh, and are continuing their investigation to apprehend the absconding supplier, Sanju Sahu.
