Thousands Join Bibi Ka Alam Muharram Procession Through Charminar

Thousands of Shia Muslims participated in the traditional Bibi Ka Alam procession on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, which passed through the historic Charminar area in Hyderabad. The major religious event was held to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain at the Battle of Karbala, drawing massive crowds of devotees after the Zohar prayers.
The main procession started from the Biwi ka Alawa in Dabeerpura, where the sacred Bibi Ka Alam is housed. Keeping a centuries-old religious and cultural tradition alive, the sacred Alam was mounted on an elephant to be carried through the streets. Devotees participating in the procession dressed in black as a symbol of grief and mourning.
As the procession moved through the city, participants took part in 'matam' and raised religious slogans. The solemn event was also characterized by prayers and extensive charity, with organizers and volunteers distributing food and beverages to the thousands of people gathered along the streets.
The procession followed a long, traditional route through the Old City. After starting at Dabeerpura, the march moved through Yakutpura and Alijah Kotla before arriving at the iconic Charminar. It then continued through Gulzar Houz, Mir Chowk, Miralam Mandi, Zehranagar, Darul Shifa, and Imliban, before finally concluding at Chaderghat.
During its passage through Charminar, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar paid his respects to the sacred Alam.
The event was held with state-supported arrangements to ensure the tradition was preserved. Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah Hussaini confirmed that the state government had made all the necessary arrangements for the Muharram observances, including the facilitation of the elephant procession, acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
