TGSRTC to Set Up EV Charging Stations at Ibrahimpatnam and Midhani Depots

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has initiated steps to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its Ibrahimpatnam and Midhani bus depots in Hyderabad, paving the way for an expanded fleet of electric buses across the city and its outskirts.
The corporation selected the Ibrahimpatnam and Midhani depots as part of its network expansion to enhance EV connectivity to suburban localities and the IT corridor. Once the charging infrastructure is fully established and energized, additional electric buses will be introduced on various commuter routes serviced by these two depots.
Setting up reliable high-voltage power supply remains critical for the continuous operation of large-scale EV charging stations. To facilitate this, the RTC authorities have already made the required payments and deposited funds with the electricity distribution companies. These payments will cover the development of necessary power infrastructure, including high-voltage power line connections, dedicated transformers, and substations at the depot premises.
Transport officials are expected to speed up the electrical infrastructure works over the coming weeks, with the charging facilities at both Ibrahimpatnam and Midhani depots likely to become operational within the next few months. Following the completion of these sites, TGSRTC is also slated to begin work on establishing EV charging infrastructure at the Dilsukhnagar depot shortly.
Currently, out of nearly 3,200 public transport buses operating across the Greater Hyderabad region, around 458 are electric vehicles. The existing electric bus fleet is distributed across several key facilities in the city: 100 buses each operate out of the Hayathnagar-2, HCU, and Miyapur-2 depots, while 68 buses run from the Cantonment depot, 50 from Kukatpally, and 40 from the Ranigunj depot.
The ongoing installation of charging stations at the new depots aligns with the RTC’s broader strategy to steadily scale up its electric bus operations, reduce vehicular emissions, and promote environmentally friendly public transportation throughout Hyderabad and its surrounding suburban regions.
