TGREDCO to Turn Kodangal into India's First Model Solar Mandal in One Month

On Saturday, Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) Vice Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui announced that Kodangal mandal is on track to become India’s first model solar mandal within one month. Speaking at a meeting in Kodangal, Faruqui detailed the clean energy initiative, which focuses on installing rooftop solar systems for local households under the Gruhajyothi Scheme.
According to Faruqui, while only model solar villages are currently being implemented across the country, the project to develop an entire mandal as a model solar mandal is being undertaken for the first time in Kodangal. He stated that the successful implementation of this initiative will establish the mandal as a national model for clean energy adoption.
The corporation has already approved the installation of rooftop solar systems for 5,186 electricity service connections covered under the Gruhajyothi Scheme within Kodangal mandal. Among these approved connections, officials identified 2,418 service connections as technically feasible for the solar setup.
To date, nearly 2,000 rooftop solar systems have already been successfully installed. Faruqui directed department officials to expedite the process and complete the remaining feasible installations within the one-month deadline.
Faruqui emphasized that the active participation of grassroots-level public representatives is crucial to achieving the model solar mandal target within the stipulated timeframe. He urged local sarpanches and councillors to create awareness among the public, encourage eligible beneficiaries to participate in the scheme, and facilitate the prompt resolution of any field-level issues to accelerate the implementation.
