TGHRC Directs Action on Food Safety at Bellampalli BC Girls Gurukul School

The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has issued directives regarding the reported illness of girl students at a Backward Classes (BC) Girls Gurukul School in Bellampalli, Mancherial district, recommending strict compliance with food-safety standards.

The Commission, headed by Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, took suo-motu cognizance of a news report dated July 24, 2026, which highlighted suspected food poisoning among the school students.

Following the incident, the Collector and District Magistrate of Mancherial submitted a detailed report to the rights panel. Upon reviewing the report, the Commission noted that all affected students received prompt medical treatment, fully recovered, and were discharged. The medical evaluations did not establish food poisoning or any severe health complications.

The Commission recommended that the District Collector ensure hostel authorities exercise due care during the preparation and serving of meals. It emphasised that authorities must strictly adhere to prescribed health, hygiene, and food-safety standards to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.

Following the recommendation to district authorities, the Commission officially closed further proceedings in the matter.
