TGCSB warns Hyderabad citizens against fake online shopping offers and websites

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has issued a public advisory in Hyderabad warning citizens to remain vigilant against cybercriminals who are exploiting online shopping offers to defraud unsuspecting shoppers. The advisory highlights how fraudsters are using flash sales, season discounts, clearance sales, and exclusive online offers to lure victims into financial traps.

According to the advisory issued by the TGCSB, cybercriminals have been creating fake websites that impersonate popular, genuine e-commerce brands. These deceptive platforms are designed to look highly realistic, tricking shoppers into believing they are purchasing from legitimate online stores.

In addition to fake websites, the fraudsters are circulating misleading advertisements on various social media platforms. They are also sending fraudulent links directly to citizens through communication channels such as WhatsApp messages, SMS, and emails. These links and advertisements typically offer branded products at unrealistically low prices and feature heavy discounts to attract buyers.

The TGCSB explained this modus operandi to raise public awareness and protect citizens from cyber fraud. By detailing how these deceptive online shopping schemes operate, the bureau aims to prevent shoppers from suffering financial losses.

The cyber security bureau has urged the public to be more cautious when browsing online deals, clicking on promotional links, or making purchases from unfamiliar websites. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity of e-commerce platforms before making any transactions.

The TGCSB noted that the primary goal of these cybercriminals is to defraud unsuspecting shoppers by exploiting their desire for discounts and exclusive offers. By circulating these fake advertisements and links, the fraudsters manage to trick individuals into sending money or sharing sensitive information on platforms that mimic trusted brands.

With online shopping being highly popular, the TGCSB's warning serves as an essential guide for citizens to protect themselves. The bureau continues to advise everyone to stay alert and avoid falling for offers that seem too good to be true, especially those received through unsolicited messages on WhatsApp, SMS, or email.
