TGBIE Extends First-Year Intermediate Admission Deadline to August 31, 2026

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has extended the deadline for first-year Intermediate admissions for the 2026 academic session across Telangana until August 31, 2026.

The revised admission timeline applies to all government, private aided, private unaided junior colleges, residential institutions, and composite degree colleges offering Intermediate courses in the state. TGBIE has instructed all affiliated institutions to adhere strictly to the prescribed admission procedures and clarified that colleges are prohibited from conducting separate entrance examinations.

According to the board, admissions must be granted solely on the basis of candidate performance in the qualifying examination, taking into account Grade Point Average (GPA), subject-wise Grade Points (GP), marks obtained, and applicable reservation policies.

Under the mandated reservation criteria, 15 per cent of seats are allocated for Scheduled Castes, 10 per cent for Scheduled Tribes, 29 per cent for Backward Classes, and 10 per cent for Economically Weaker Sections. Additionally, 5 per cent is reserved for persons with disabilities, 5 per cent for NCC, sports, and extracurricular activities, and 3 per cent for children of ex-servicemen and eligible defence personnel. Co-educational junior colleges without separate institutions for girls must also reserve 33.33 per cent of seats for female candidates across categories.

TGBIE has also issued operational guidelines for institutions and applicants. Students applying after an academic gap must submit a local candidate or residential certificate issued by the concerned Tahsildar. Both students and parents are required to submit a mandatory anti-drug declaration for the 2026-27 academic session.

For unaided junior colleges, admissions must remain strictly within the number of sections sanctioned by the board, with class intake capped at a maximum of 88 students per section. Prior approval from TGBIE is required to start additional sections. Colleges must prominently display and update the count of sanctioned, filled, and vacant seats at their entrances daily, while ensuring adequate safety and security arrangements for female students. The board cautioned that colleges violating these guidelines risk penalties or cancellation of affiliation.
