TG SAFE Seizes 15 Tonnes of Food Worth Rs 30 Lakh in Hyderabad Raids

The enforcement wing of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has seized 15 tonnes of food articles valued at Rs 30 lakh following inspections across Hyderabad. The checks targeted sweet and savoury manufacturing and retail units, including an outlet in Bachupally, ahead of the Milad-un-Nabi and Raksha Bandhan festivals.

According to officials, the operation was carried out as a preventive measure to check the sale of adulterated and substandard food items and prevent food poisoning during the festive period. A total of 15 teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 32 retail and manufacturing facilities in the Core Urban Region.

During the raids, officials uncovered multiple violations, including poor hygiene, improper handling and storage of food, expired products, pest and rodent infestations, and fungal infestation on spoiled vegetables. Inspectors also noted violations of food packaging and labelling regulations, as well as products carrying misleading claims and advertisements.

As part of the action, authorities suspended the licence of Burfi Ghar located at Bachupally and directed the establishment to immediately halt its business operations.

Enforcement teams collected 35 food samples on suspicion of adulteration and sent them for laboratory analysis. Additionally, officials served 12 improvement notices and four show-cause notices to businesses found violating food safety standards.
