TG SAFE Seizes 15 Tonnes of Food Worth Rs 30 Lakh in Hyderabad Raids

HYDERABAD — The enforcement wing of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) seized 15 tonnes of food articles worth Rs 30 lakh during inspections across Hyderabad, including an outlet in Bachupally where operations were ordered shut.

The raids were carried out ahead of the Milad-un-Nabi and Raksha Bandhan festivals as preventive measures to curb the sale of adulterated and substandard food and prevent food poisoning incidents during the festive period.

A total of 15 teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 32 retail and manufacturing units in the Core Urban Region (CURE). During the checks, authorities uncovered numerous safety and hygiene violations, including poor sanitation, improper storage, expired products, fungal-infested vegetables, and pest and rodent infestations.

Inspectors also found violations of food packaging and labelling norms, as well as products with misleading claims and advertisements. During the enforcement drive, 35 food samples were collected on suspicion of adulteration and sent for laboratory testing.

Following the findings, the licence of Burfi Ghar in Bachupally was suspended, and the establishment was ordered to halt all business operations immediately. Officials also issued 12 improvement notices and four show-cause notices to other units that violated food safety standards.
