TG SAFE Finds Expired Food and Hygiene Lapses at Seven Hyderabad Restaurants

Enforcement teams from the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) uncovered expired food items, spoiled vegetables, pest infestations, and hygiene lapses during inspections across seven restaurants in Hyderabad's Core Urban Region, including establishments in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Tolichowki, and Gachibowli.

The special drive was carried out by six enforcement teams comprising food safety officials and police personnel. The establishments inspected during the operation were Chutneys, Spice 6, and Ohri’s in Banjara Hills; The Spicy Venue in Jubilee Hills; 4 Seasons Multicuisine Restaurant and Shah Ghouse Restaurants in Tolichowki; and Pista House Restaurant in Gachibowli.

According to officials, the inspections revealed widespread non-compliance with statutory norms. Key violations included improper food handling and storage, the presence of expired food articles, stocks of spoiled vegetables, active pest infestation, and failures to adhere to mandatory food safety labelling and display regulations.

During the drive, the enforcement teams lifted 11 food samples suspected of adulteration and sent them for detailed laboratory examination. Following the detection of these lapses, TG SAFE issued four improvement notices and three show-cause notices to the restaurants involved.
