Telangana Unemployment Rate Reaches 5.7 Percent in April-June 2026

Telangana recorded an unemployment rate of 5.7 percent among individuals aged 15 and above during the April-June 2026 quarter, according to data from the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey. The state's figure was marginally higher than the overall national average of 5.4 percent.

Despite the higher joblessness rate, Telangana posted strong workforce engagement figures. The state recorded a labour force participation rate of 58.2 percent during the period, meaning nearly six out of every 10 people aged 15 and above were either employed or actively seeking work. This figure was significantly higher than the all-India average of 54.6 percent and ranked among the highest in the southern region.

Telangana also performed above the national average in terms of total employment. The state's worker population ratio, which calculates the proportion of people actually employed, reached 54.9 percent. In comparison, the national average worker population ratio stood at 51.7 percent for the same quarter.

When evaluated against other southern states, Telangana's unemployment rate of 5.7 percent was lower than Kerala's 8.9 percent and Andhra Pradesh's 7.4 percent. However, it was higher than the rates recorded in Tamil Nadu at 5.1 percent and Karnataka at 2.9 percent.

In terms of labour force participation across the southern region, Telangana's 58.2 percent rate surpassed Andhra Pradesh at 57.4 percent and Kerala at 51.7 percent. The state's participation rate was also marginally higher than those recorded by both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which stood at 58 percent each.
