Telangana to Roll Out Cheyutha Pensions for Single Women and Widows from August 15

During a visit to Mulugu district, Telangana Panchayat Raj and Women’s Welfare Minister D Anasuya (Seethakka) announced on Friday that the state government will provide new Cheyutha monthly pensions to single women and widows starting from August 15. This first phase of the programme aims to expand the state's social security network by adding approximately two to three lakh new eligible beneficiaries to the existing pool.
The minister made this announcement while addressing the media during her visit to Mulugu. During her address, she directed department officials to conduct thorough field-level verifications of all pension applications. This measure is intended to eliminate errors and ensure complete transparency in the selection process for the new beneficiaries.
Additionally, Seethakka instructed officials to regularly update the pension database. She specifically ordered the removal of the names of deceased pension beneficiaries from the official records to keep the system accurate.
She also urged public representatives to play an active role in the implementation of the welfare programme. She asked them to create awareness about the government's welfare schemes and to identify eligible individuals who have not yet received their benefits so they can be included under the Cheyutha programme.
Emphasising the importance of technology-driven governance, the minister called for the utilization of modern digital systems. According to Seethakka, the integration of these digital tools is necessary to ensure the timely and efficient distribution of the monthly pensions.
Prior to this announcement, the state government had stated that two lakh new applicants would be given Cheyutha monthly pensions soon. The state is now making arrangements to sanction approximately two to three lakh new pensions. These new recipients will join the already existing 42 lakh pension beneficiaries in Telangana, marking a major step toward expanding the state's social security network.
