Telangana to Present Unified Water Security Model at National Summit in New Delhi

Telangana is set to showcase its unified water security model at a two-day national summit organised by the Union ministry of jal shakti in New Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday. The state government will deliver a comprehensive presentation on water security, infrastructure management, and related sustainability initiatives.

Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the summit holds significant national importance, as it convenes representatives from the central government and various states to deliberate on pressing challenges surrounding water security and service delivery. The overarching discussions are anticipated to help shape a shared, time-bound national action plan aimed at accelerating sustainable water management across the country.

The national meeting is structured around four primary themes: the timely implementation of water-infrastructure projects, the 'Catch the Rain' campaign, the sustainability of drinking-water sources, and the operation and maintenance of rural drinking-water supply systems. Telangana's delegation will address these focal areas during its presentation.

While reviewing the state's presentation, Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted that Telangana plans to advocate for a practical governance framework built on five pillars: one water-security plan, one comprehensive and geotagged asset register, one designated lead agency, one accountable financing mechanism, and one measurable outcome.

Under this proposed approach, the minister stressed that every single water asset must be assigned a unique identity and a geotagged location. Furthermore, each asset should have a clearly defined source of funding, an identified responsible implementing agency, and established measurable benefits to ensure long-term accountability and efficiency in water management.
