Telangana to Issue Notices to Nearly 93 Lakh Electors Over Electoral Roll Discrepancies

Close to 93 lakh electors across Telangana are set to be issued notices to explain discrepancies in their details as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls. Voters who receive these notices must submit replies explaining the issues to ensure their names are retained on the final electoral rolls.

Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy confirmed during a media briefing that even slight variations, such as the difference between a full name with a surname and a name recorded with only an initial, will be treated as an anomaly. He had previously noted in an interview that his own name would fall under the anomalies category due to a discrepancy between his surname and initial.

However, the anomalies and logical discrepancies officially listed by the Chief Electoral Officer's office did not originally include elector name mismatches among its 11 designated red flags.

Among the officially listed discrepancies are demographic inconsistencies between family members, such as a gap of less than nine months between progeny, less than a 15-year age gap between parent and progeny, and an age gap of greater than 50 years between progeny and parent. Other flagged family age criteria include less than a 40-year age gap between an elector and a grandparent.

Discrepancies identified between current electronic rolls and the previous Special Intensive Revision include differing parent names, mapping with different relative types across rolls, mapping with a father's name in the current roll versus a husband's name in the previous revision, differing father names between both rolls, and incorrect age differences recorded across revisions.

In addition, having zero documents or possessing only an Aadhaar card have also been classified as anomalies. Because no documents were sought during the initial enumeration phase, officials noted that these document-related issues will emerge during the subsequent verification process.
