Telangana Tax Collections Rise 16% to ₹44,372 Crore in First Half of 2026-27

Telangana's tax revenues under GST, VAT, and profession tax increased by 16% to reach ₹44,372 crore in the first half of 2026-27, according to data released by the Commercial Taxes Department in Hyderabad. The total receipts collected between April and September reflected an increase of ₹6,103 crore over the ₹38,269 crore gathered during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Goods and Services Tax served as the primary growth driver, contributing nearly two-thirds of the overall expansion in state tax receipts. GST collections climbed 19% to ₹25,049 crore, up from ₹21,061 crore recorded in the same period a year earlier. This category alone accounted for 56% of the state's total tax collections during the six-month span.
Of the ₹6,103 crore net increase in revenue, GST contributed ₹3,988 crore. The performance cemented the levy's position as Telangana's principal source of own tax revenue.
Value Added Tax collections also showed double-digit gains during the April-September period. VAT revenues, which are generated primarily from sales of petrol and liquor, rose 13% to ₹18,824 crore compared to ₹16,708 crore during the prior year's first half, adding ₹2,116 crore to the state's total revenue increase.
Profession tax receipts remained largely steady across the reporting period at ₹499 crore. Commercial taxes officials noted that the recorded profession tax figures are provisional.
